What to Expect?
White Night Ballarat is on Saturday 17 March 2018, beginning at 7pm and running non-stop, rain, hail or shine, until 2am. As one of the city’s most popular events, it will get crowded at times. Knowing what to expect will help you make the most of your night.
A City Reimagined
Dozens of free events, thousands of attendees, hours of art installations, exhibitions, films, lighting, projection, music and performance: White Night is a non-stop adventure that gives the city over to local, national and global artists … and to you!
Now in its second year, Ballarat’s White Night was the first event of its kind in regional Australia, attracting an audience of up to 40 000 people across every age group in 2017.
What’s Happening, Where?
The White Night Ballarat precinct takes over the heart of Ballarat, focusing on Lydiard Street (from Ballarat Station in the north to Dana Street in the south) and Sturt Street (between Armstrong and Grenville streets). Prominent program pieces as well as food and amenities will be spread throughout this area.
There is so much on offer that you don’t need to see everything, but if you want to try, you have several hours – so pace yourself. Take advantage of the quieter spaces to rest and recharge and enjoy your evening.
You can expect large crowds from about 9pm until midnight, but the programs run until 2am so if a particular work is busy, come back at a later time. If you find yourself in a crowd, be patient and follow any directions from the White Night Ballarat team.
