Nicholas Tory and Ample Projects

Inspired by the artwork of Ballarat’s Indigenous Aunty and Elder Marlene Gilson and her daughter Deanne, Ample Projects have created a giant LED animation of Bunjil the eagle flying through Queen’s Gardens.

Exploring permanence and the ephemeral, this sequence of 48 sculptures (presented as eight illuminations per second) creates Bunjil the eagle flying a constant path through time and space. Appearing for a moment, this creature was here before us. This protected species – a myth, a memory, a product of millions of years of evolution.
