Sri Lankan Fellowship of Bendigo
Around the world, Buddhist communities observe the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha by crafting lanterns on the holiday of Vesak. Millions of glowing lanterns shine brightly in Sri Lankan homes and streets at this time. The lanterns are decorated with the six colours of the aura that is believed to have surrounded Buddha after his enlightenment. Buddhists today use lanterns to illuminate temples, streets and homes, representing the light of Buddha’s teachings.
