White Night is an accessible event and welcomes people of all ages, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people who are LGBTQIA+ and people who have a lived experience of disability.

We recognise that the experience of disability and accessibility is diverse and unique to individuals, and that artists and audience members still face barriers to access. We have strived to remove as many of these as we can.

Aural Rating

• Aural Rating 75%  – The event is primarily sound-based, with visuals only incidental to the work
• Aural rating 50% – The event has both sound and visual components, but sight isn’t essential to engage properly with the work

Where this symbol is displayed, one or more sessions will be Auslan interpreted.

 

Content Warnings

Where relevant, event listings have warnings, including smoke, whether an event contains sudden loud noises, strobe lighting or potentially triggering content.

Physical Access

Event and artwork listings show this wheelchair symbol when the venue has been identified as wheelchair accessible, though some spaces may have uneven surfaces.  If the wheelchair symbol is not shown, access may be partial.

Additional accessible toilets are located across the event site and are marked with this symbol on the program map.

 

Visual Ratings

If you are Deaf or hard of hearing, or if English isn’t your primary spoken language, this three-tiered rating system will help you decide if an event is suitable for you.

• Visual Rating 100% – contains no music or dialogue, or is open captioned, so Deaf or hard of hearing audiences can engage fully with the event.
• Visual Rating 75% – events with this rating may have music or sounds in the background, or be fully open captioned providing access to spoken word
• Visual Rating 50% – May have music or sounds in the background, or may be partly open captioned or scripts and descriptions are given to the audience before the event on request

 

Relaxed Space 

Access to a relaxed space is available on Level 2 of The Geelong Library & Heritage Centre, entry via Little Malop Street. The space is available during the event between 7pm and 12am, as a dedicated space to take a break from the sensory experience that can come with being in a bright and busy environment.

 

Parent Rooms

Portable parent rooms are available and are marked on the event map. They are fitted with a baby change table, comfortable feeding chair and mini kitchenette and are heated, along with being lockable for privacy.

 

Accessible Parking

Parking is limited around the event precinct and attendees are encouraged to make the most of public transport to and from the event.

Limited off-street parking will be available for accessible parking at 13-15 Little Malop Street. Parking is available on a first-come basis and cannot be reserved.
