WHAT IS WHITE NIGHT GEELONG?
Inspired by the international Nuit Blanche movement that began in Paris in 2002 and came to Australia as White Night Melbourne in 2013, this spectacular event finds the city reimagined through art, music, colour and light. Making its debut this year, White Night Geelong welcomes all to witness the city reimagined in a one-night-only festival of illumination, transformation and participation.
WHERE WILL WHITE NIGHT GEELONG BE HELD, EXACTLY?
The White Night Geelong precinct features Gheringhap Street as its spine and one block either side. It is bordered in the south by Ryrie Street and Western Beach Road in the north.
IS WHITE NIGHT GEELONG FREE?
Almost everything at White Night Geelong is free, but some venues may have ticketed events; these will be clearly indicated on their individual program listings, along with booking details.
IS WHITE NIGHT GEELONG SUITABLE FOR A GENERAL AUDIENCE?
The majority of the White Night Geelong program is suitable for all ages. Any venues or works with an age restriction due to program content will be identified on individual program listings.
WHERE CAN I FIND THE WHITE NIGHT GEELONG PROGRAM?
WHEN WILL THE PROJECTIONS AND LIGHTING DISPLAYS START AND END?
White Night Geelong runs from 7pm to 2am, however the projections and lighting works are best viewed after darkness falls (around 8pm).
WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE THE ENTIRE WHITE NIGHT GEELONG PROGRAM?
The White Night Geelong program has lots of free activities, so you may not be able to experience every single thing. But if you want to try, you have from 7pm until 2am! Pace yourself, and take advantage of the quieter moments to rest and recharge and enjoy your evening. White Night Geelong is yours to create for yourself – no two people will have the same experience.
WHO CREATED AND PRODUCES THE EVENT?
White Night Geelong is a State Government of Victoria initiative that is owned and managed by Visit Victoria, and proudly supported by the City of Greater Geelong. It is produced by David Atkins Enterprises, with Artistic Director David Atkins OAM at the helm curating works created by local, regional and national artists.
WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION BEFORE AND DURING THE EVENT?
On the night there will be Service Hubs located throughout the precinct, staffed by our friendly Guest Services team members, who will be happy to assist you. Check the map for Service Hub locations.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT WHITE NIGHT GEELONG?
White Night Geelong is a unique event that runs from 7pm until 2am, allowing you to choose an arrival time that suits you. Arrive whenever you want, stay as long as you like and enjoy everything that’s on offer at your own pace. You could start with dinner at a local restaurant, then continue through the evening; you could bring the kids for an adventure before bedtime. It’s up to you!
There are incredible events taking place throughout the evening. The biggest crowds at White Night Ballarat were there between about 9pm and 11.30pm, and it’s likely this will be similar in Geelong. If you find yourself in a crowd, be patient and follow any directions from the White Night Geelong team.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO WHITE NIGHT GEELONG?
Make sure to bring a water bottle, a charged phone and comfortable shoes. And don’t forget to download a copy of the map before you go!
WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER?
IS WHITE NIGHT GEELONG AN ACCESSIBLE EVENT?
White Night Geelong is an accessible event. All program venues are accessible, and roads in and around the event precinct will be closed to traffic, making it easier for people to move around. Find out more about accessibility at White Night Geelong here.
WHERE CAN I GET HELP DURING THE EVENT?
There will be Service Hubs across the White Night Geelong precinct and our Guest Services team members will be present and identifiable throughout the night to assist with any queries. The Service Hubs are marked on the map.
WHERE CAN I FIND A FIRST AID STATION/TOILETS/DRINKING WATER?
Service Hubs, toilets, drinking water and first aid facilities are marked on the map and will be clearly signed on the night.
WHERE CAN I FIND A BABY CHANGE FACILITY?
There is a baby change facility on level one of the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre at 51 Little Malop Street. The facility will be open until 11pm.
WILL SEATING BE AVAILABLE?
White Night does not provide any outdoor seating in the event precinct, however seating will be available in some participating indoor venues, restaurants, cafes and bars.
WHICH RESTAURANTS, CAFES AND BARS WILL BE OPEN DURING THE EVENT?
A list of participating restaurants, cafes, bars and food trucks is available here. We encourage you to make a reservation at participating restaurants so you don’t miss out.
IS WHITE NIGHT GEELONG LICENSED?
No. White Night Geelong is an alcohol-free event. Alcohol is only permitted within licensed venues. It is an offence within the City of Geelong to consume or carry opened alcohol in public areas.
